![]() You and the usual occupant of the passenger seat need to take a yard / meter stick out to an open parking lot. When open, car doors are very susceptible to weight changes. If you've ever worked with a modern table saw, the theory is very similar to the grabber devices that prevent kickback. Unfortunately, when closing the door, the curved design digs into whatever substance that it is on, whether it be dirt, grass, concrete, etc. When open, especially near curbs, the curved design allows the bottom edge to glide along whatever is in its path. The curved design of the lower part of the door blends in with the rest of the body when closed. I can assure you there is not a car on the road that doesn't have a scenario glitch physical or by design waiting to get ya.Īnd that is no matter who made it. It has taught me to look closely at that if needed, and move the car, then load, Its part of the instant calculations the operator has to forsee, (as you can see i missed a few !) how much clearance do I need from Actually had the bottom of a door "crack" on the curb edge, after same event of Jack the car up to close the door then move the car. Passenger opened the door as i was backing near the curb and folded the bottom edge of the door on an oldsmobile Cutlass. Dented the bottom of the door on a curb on a Dodge Omni during passenger entry. Many have been thereĪnd had this event but not just a Honda CR-V. Allow a little more room for passenger loading on the curb side. Now have an event that you will remember. Replace the clips needed, reinstall the trim and move on. Now, perhaps when my wife gets in on her own she may not open the door as far as I did when this incident happened, but in no way way did I over extend the door.įor what it's worth. If the molding is going separate when parking on an average street that has a curb in place, then something is not right. My question is has anyone else has this happen to their CRV? To me this design falls on Honda. I saw on YouTube the exact issue that happened to me was explained in this segment. My guess the plastic anchors and post most likely snap when I began shutting the door. Of course, I really did not noticed this build design until this happened. The molding hangs down 3+ inches below the door frame so the molding is not supported as well as if the molding was 100 percent attached to the door. Now after the fact and looking at the molding and door, it seems to be a flawed design, well at least to me. So when I went to shut the door the molding started to separate from the bottom of the door. So what I found was when the door opened it cleared the street curb but the bottom (molding) somewhat lodged in the grass. Once she was inside, I started to close the passenger’s door and heard a terrible cracking type sound, like a sound a dry door hinge would make. One evening we were going out for a special event and she was especially dressed very nicely so I opened the car door for her. My 2020 molding has pulled away from the door frame.
